Online Acquisition PCs |

Rent IT have developed a variety of PC systems suitable for Online Acquistion, from standard Aluminium Tower systems to 19" Rackmount single and dual processor PCs. |
All systems can be fitted with multiple hard drives, RS232 serial cards, additional network cards and parallel ports. CD and DVD writers are standard. |
Multi-display capability is advantageous to enlarge the desktop - dual monitor is standard, however 3, 4 or more displays are possible. |
As an alternative to the standard tower/rack solution, the Shuttle micro PC is being increasing utilised offshore, due to its small format enabling lower transport costs and easy installation. |
Although the newer Microsoft operating systems are easier to use, some software can only be used on Windows NT4, 95, 98 or even DOS. As PC manufacturers have dropped support and drivers for these operation systems, Rent IT retain a few oldie machines suitable for any of the Microsoft series of O/S's |

Post Processing |
Data processing can take as long as the acquisition especially mosaicing sidescan and multibeam files. The time lag for processing can result in gaps in the data not spotted quickly enough, and hence surveys lines having to be run, perhaps after the survey vessel has left the area, an expensive mistake. |
Rent IT have a variety of systems suitable for post processing hydrographic, oceanographic, and survey data. For multithreaded software we have Dual Processor Xeon workstations that can number crunch all day (and night) 24/7/365. Single threaded software can have problems with dual proceesor systems and hence a fast P4 based Tower with Hyperthreading disabled is an ideal solution. |

Monitors |
TFT monitors used to be a prohibitively expensive for use offshore. However as prices have fallen, more Clients and contractors are stipulating that TFTs be used on board Vessels and Offshore Installations. Health and Safety issues (our TFTs are shipped in pelicases and require only 1 hand to carry), space required during installation, and power requirements / heat dissapation are all factors that favour the TFT. |
Rent IT stock a range of TFTs, from 15" to 23", VGA, DVI, composite and Y/C (SVHS) video inputs. |
Rent IT also stock standard CRT monitors from 17" to 22" should your requirement dictate. |

Storage |
Data collected offshore is expensive to re-acquire and hence small or large volumes of data needs to be securely stored for transport to the beach. CDR and DVDR are a cheap form of storage, however they are not as robust as tape. |
Rent IT stock a variety of single tape drives - DLT,SDLT and LTO2, as well as 8 and 16 tape autoloaders with back up rates of up to 30MB/second. |
Rent IT also stock NAS (network attached storage) with capacities up to 2 x 1.6TB volumes and 1GB networking, to provide instant access of data to users. |

Uninteruptable Power Supplies |
|

AC Power on offshore vessels and installations can have spikes and dips as large power hungry equipment is used. Also short losses of power can occur when switching between generators. To prevent damage to computer equipment, and PC reboot situations due to poor power, a UPS is strongly recommended on most Offshore operations. A variety of floor standing or rackmountable UPS systems are available ex stock for rental, from 1KVA to 3KVA, with larger capacities available to order. |
