Investigating the Virtual Experience with vmware |
Rent IT staff members have recently had the opportunity to get an introduction to developments in the world of virtualisation and in particular the products from vmware. |
Whilst Rent IT primarily rents out hardware, such as computers & servers, it is important that we are aware, as far as possible, how our clients use our rental systems. |
In the case of virtualisation with the vmware range of software we need to ensure that our rental hardware meets the requirements for vmware and there virtualisation products. In addition it ensures that our staff, whilst not professing to be experts in virtualisation, at least have some understanding of the processes and products.

The idea behind virtualisation is that many physical servers can be combined into a single, or just a few, physical units with each physical sever running a number of virtual servers on its hardware. This approach brings considerable savings in server numbers, space and power requirements and hence overall costs. Some virtualisation examples demonstrated reduction of 50 servers to just 7 and 30 servers reduced through virtualisation to just 3. |
Of course this does mean that when many virtual servers are run on a single physical computer this server needs to be of adequate performance to meet the increased hardware demands. It is in these applications where the Rent IT range of rental products such as dual, dual core and dual quad core computers & servers can come to the fore. |
With cost saving being a major drive behind virtualisation, then the idea of renting your server hardware for running your virtualisation software on brings the possibility of even greater costs savings and flexibility. Whether you need rental of a single unit for just a few days of testing or you wish long term rental of new servers to improve cashflow and reduce support costs, Rent IT can provide a solution. |

If you are considering venturing into virtualisation, whether with vmware, or another supplier, then we would be pleased to discuss your hardware requirements. |
