It all over now! (Well for the moment) |
Despite a faultless performance from the Rent IT hardware it was not sufficient to prevent an overall defeat at the hands of Grandmaster Kirik Georgiev in our recent chess match. (See December 2006 news for full details)

One game drawn and one game lost showed that while computer technology has come forward in leaps and bounds the "human" element can still provide the upper hand in some cases. |
However Robert Jurivec, operator of our hardware on the day, admitted that a choice of opening move was the crucial factor that lead to the lost game. And as a computer is only as good as the information fed in it was the human factor here that let us down. (Well that's our claim!) |

But Robert Jurivec is ready for a comeback and Rent IT are more than willing to restore both Roberts and our reputation. |
With work continuing on an even more enhanced version of the Crafty Chess engine and of course improvements in the opening game, a re-match is tentatively being discussed for later this year.
By then not only will the software have moved forward but with the pace of progress in computer technology Rent IT may well be able to offer something with a bit more "get up & go" for the match. Dual quad processors anybody? |
