Whilst we are well known for designing and building high end computer systems for the animation, graphics and CAD market Rent IT has recently found a more unusual use for our technology. |
In February 2007, after an approach by Robert Jurjevic, Rent IT will be providing one of our latest Dual core, Dual processor Xeon computer systems for a chess match against Grand Master Kiril Georgiev (world rank 27). |
The machine will be running the Crafty chess engine , v20.12.rj5 written by Professor Robert Hyatt with modifications by Robert Jurjevic. |
Those with an interest in proceeding will be able to monitor the match via the FICS (Free Internet Chess Server) with two games scheduled for the 3rd & 4th of February, both matches starting at 2.00pm GMT. GM Georgiev's account as Ivanica and Crafty's (v20.12.rj5 or higher) account on FICS is CraftyNovus |

Provided by Rent IT will be our latest "high end" computer system. More commonly used in animation rendering suites or as a graphic workstation this machine runs 2 x Xeon 5140 2.33GHz Dual Core processor with 8 GB RAM. |
With access to the machine being undertaken via Rent IT's fibre link this machine will never leave the building here in Aberdeen with all access and matches taking place remotely. |

Whilst it is generally recognised that the chess masters still have the upper hand when it comes to playing chess the combination of improved programming and greatly enhanced computational power of the modern computer is creating a more demanding game of chess for the human opponent. |
Quite a number of recognised chess engines exist running on a variety of machines. Perhaps most prominent at present is the match in Bonn, Germany (25th Nov to 5th Dec) between GM Vladimir Kramnik & the Deep Fritz chess engine. However other chess engines exist such as Toga II, Rybka and Fruit with the Crafty chess engine a worthy opponent to these. |
