The resulting system consisted of multiple 2.8GHz Dual Zeon computer systems with SCSI hard discs for online digitising, each one contained within a single 1U high (about 4cm) rack mount unit. An online archiving server consisted of a high capacity storage server containing over 600GB of internal SCSI hard disc linked to external SDLT tape facilities for final back up. Also part of the system was an offline editing suite consisting of a single Dual Zeon computer with 1TB of hard disk storage, high end graphics and large flat screen. All components of the system were linked via a high speed 1 GB network and switcher.
As Intel s processor speed increases and multiple cpu cores can be designed onto 1 die, single pc performance multiplies.
